Help Me Grow Home Visitors chosen as Everyday Ohio Heroes

The Hocking County Help Me Grow (HMG) Home Visitors are the winners of the Everyday Ohio Heroes Award for the Southeast Ohio region.  This award is given by the Ohio Children’s Trust Find (OCTF) and honors individuals who dedicate their time, efforts, or lives to preventing child abuse and neglect.  The OCTF is dedicated to child abuse and child neglect prevention and is prompting a call to action to encourage all adults to “Be a Hero in the Eyes of a Child – one simple act of encouragement at a time.”

The HMG Home Visitors, Jayne Shipman, Sheila Bond, and Natalie Andrews, and Tiffiany Harvey, were nominated for the Award by Superintendent Jill Squires. Squires’ said “They (Home Visitors) have been compared to guardian angels. They've been called "best friend, teacher, cheerleader, greatest support, family" and referred to as "my second mom." The women who provide home visiting in Hocking County have changed the trajectory of lives for both parent and child. I am awestruck to see the impact they have on the children in this county. Their legacy is a generation of children and families who know the value of kindness, respect, and love.

All award winners will be honored during the Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention virtual kick-off event on April 1st.
